Town of St. Michaels Accepting Applications for Town Clerk

The Town of St. Michaels, population 1,040, is located on the Eastern Shore of Maryland. Known as “the town that fooled the British”, St. Michaels boasts a combination of popular marinas, inns, bed & breakfasts, shops, and restaurants that make it a favorite destination for visitors. Frequently featured in travel publications and a popular destination, St. Michaels is steeped in history and maritime culture.

The Town of St. Michaels is recruiting for a full-time Town Clerk to provide general and administrative clerical support to ensure the Town’s legislative history is properly documented and archived for future generations. The successful candidate will be required to attend and maintain accurate and complete records of all proceedings of the Town Commissioner meetings; maintain and update documents, such as Town Codes and/or the Town Charter; prepare agendas and meeting packets for all Commissioner meetings; as requested prepare ordinances, resolutions, or proclamations so that they can be executed, recorded, archived, or distributed. In addition. The Clerk is tasked with typing documents, compiling and filing records, answering telephone calls, scheduling meetings and appointments, reserving meeting rooms, and completing general office tasks pertaining to official business of the Town Commissioners. Work is performed under the direction of the Town Administrator.

Experience and Education:

  • Experience in municipal government or similar setting is a plus.
  • A high school diploma or equivalent with supplemental business school or applicable college- level course work.
  • A valid driver’s license is required

Preferred Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Experience with Municipal Government/Town governmental organization.
  • Experience with electronic document management systems.
  • Virtual platforms, such as Zoom for meetings.

Preferred Skills:

  • Transcription and maintaining official records.
  • Assessing and prioritizing multiple tasks, projects, and demands.
  • Communicate effectively, written and verbal, with various audiences.
  • Maintain confidentiality.
  • Use of Microsoft Office Software (Outlook, Word, Excel, and other applications as necessary).
